‘It was never my intention to become a dressmaker, nor to stay in England for so long. It just happened. From an apprenticeship in a couture atelier in Düsseldorf and arriving in London with a sewing machine in my rucksack, to making costumes for the Notting Hill Gate Carnival. Not understanding why John Cleese kept apologizing to me during a fitting for a TV commercial and being chosen by Jean Paul Gaultier to make Helen Mirren’s feather costume for the Peter Greenaway film ‘The Cook, the Thief, his Wife & her Lover’.

Being part of the team that created Aslan for the BBC adaptation of ‘The chronicles of Narnia’, to telling off David Hockney for smoking in the new wardrobe facilities of Glyndebourne Festival Opera. From travelling in a taxi through Berlin, at a time of violent demonstrations against the reintroduction of military service, with a boot full of German police uniforms for the film Lulu, to finally creating my own label and opening my boutique only to receive a call from Joan Rivers saying, ‘Hello Nicole- it’s Hollywood!’

These are just some of the stories I will be telling supported by images and a short film of the episode of ‘Joan knows best’ that was made in my boutique here in Hove.
Please get in touch if you would like to attend, I would be delighted to see you. Call 07989-304676 or email me on talesofadressmaker@gmail.com
Best wishes
Nicole
